The Doctor Has Arrived

Just received a Tardis from 'Layouts4u'. It comes with a blue LED in the roof and a flasher unit that runs off a couple of batteries. The Tardis itself will need a little work - the moulding has several bubbles in which I intend to fill. After a repaint I'll print off some suitable windows and signs and stick them in place. And the flasher unit will have to be modified to run off the 12V 'street lighting' supply on the layout.

The locals didn't seem to notice the Tardis materialising in the village

Hannerton New Street Update

Track laying of the 4 platform lines has been completed. Just the storage lines in the foreground remaining.

Thinking ahead

The curved point at the throat of the north end of Hannerton station is tucked away behind the chimney and is already a little awkward to access. When and if the scenery is completed in this area this section will be almost impossible to access. Probably a bad idea. Anyway - to minimise the problem I'll use a surface point motor and I'll switch the frog polarity. Here's the motor in position:

Phase 2 Begins...

I've started the trackwork for Hannington New Street this evening. It meant breaking the existing circuit, realigning the lines each end of the station and adding some pointwork. I managed to get the circuit connected back up, so the remainder of the track should cause little disruption.

The southern approach to Hannerton New Street.

Trackwork nearly complete at the north end of the station.

The first train to pass over the new track formation.

Essington Village Update

With three building (very nearly) complete I took the opportunity to take a couple of photos of Essington village. Clearly I still need the roads and more pavements for which I plan to use the Scalescenes products. I've also got to decide upon the final placement. The roof of the chip shop is loose because, at my daughter's request, I've got to illuminate it! She did point out that Chip shops were open even when it was dark!

Next project is a couple of detached houses - once again Superquick kits bought as part of a job lot several months ago.

And finally...I've got a new stock of grass - it should keep me going for a while!

Fish and Chips

As blogged a few days ago, I've started work on the second shop for Essington village. I had been intending to build a model shop, but during a family discussion we decided against that. We figured that if a village only had 2 shops, then it is unlikely that one would be a model shop! So what was this new shop to be? In the end it was a toss up between a Chinese Take Away and a Chip Shop - the latter won! And what to call it? We decided upon a classic pun...

Co-op Finished

Spent an hour or so completing the Co-op shop this afternoon. Here's a couple of photos of it.

Next on the agenda is the other shop from the same Superquick pack. It's supposed to be an antiques shop...but I think we might just make it into a model shop!

Co-op Shop

I've started building one of the shops for Essington village. It is another Superquick kit, but 'modernised' with new signs and posters in the windows rather than a window display. Still a few bits to finish this - like the rest of the roof, chimney etc.
