Amongst the many items I've gathered over the last 18 months were these 2 controllers. One has never worked, but the other worked fine until about 2 weeks ago when it packed up. So I've set about fixing them both.
Some bright spark of a designer decided that the cases should be riveted together which required some carefully drilling before analysis could commence! One had a dirty switch and one had a blown power transistor and diode. The failed transistor had a datecode that showed it was manufactured in 1978! Both controllers were successfully tested last night.
